Improve your androids battery life...

I <3 lifehacker, it's one of my favourite websites ever and today they published a guide to get the most out of your power hungry Androids battery life, seriously these guys are gods amongst men and you should follow them on twitter and subscribe to their RSS and like them on facebook, seriously...

Q: What do you do to distract the public from your gaming network being down for almost a week?

A: Launch two new Android/Playstation tablets!

That's right folks in amongst the PSN being hacked/repaired/hacked/taken over by Gremlins, Sony have decided to release details of two Android tablets one a straight up 9.4" tablet the other in an interesting 2x 5.5" clam shell format.

Both machines will be running Honeycomb and Playstation suite which allows users to download and play Playstation games.

IOS4 Tracks where you are constantly - then logs it when you connect to Itunes

Several Sources this morning are reporting that  two British Security Researchers have discovered that IOS4 is constantly recording your location and logging the information without you knowing.During a sync operation the Operating system then copies the file containing location and datestamps, to your local computer, meaning historical data regarding your location can be recovered easily.

Simon Davies, director of the pressure group Privacy International, said: "This is a worrying discovery. Location is one of the most sensitive elements in anyone's life – just think where people go in the evening. The existence of that data creates a real threat to privacy. The absence of notice to users or any control option can only stem from an ignorance about privacy at the design stage."

The researchers have found no other mobile operating system synching location data in this way... Big Steve is watching you.

Acer Iconia A500 review

Android Community have been lucky enough to get their hands on Acers new 7" Tablet and review it for your pleasure.

I Found it a little vague to be fair, but in these early days of honeycomb tablets I don't think anyone will be backing one tablet particularly until the verdict is out on all of them. One thing I will say though is that Acer are a great manufacturer in my opinion and this tablet is going to be a bit cheaper than the rest.

It's all kicking off now Samsung vs Apple

Ok so earlier in the week Apple threatened to sue Samsung over copying Ipad and Iphone designs, now wired are reporting that if they do Samsung will retaliate with a lawsuit of their own... HANDBAGS. The only winner here will be the lawyers!

Latest worldwide figures show RIM and Nokia taking the hit for Androids gain

The Guardian has lots of exclusive facts and figures about the ongoing war in the market share of smartphones... it seems that google are marching on whilst RIM and Nokia bare the brunt of their assault.

The article descibes how RIMs market share has fallen from 32.5% in June 2010 to just 10.6% in March 2011, meaning that it only sold an estimated 1.4m devices there. Windows have sold only 1m of their new W7 mobiles so far and Nokia have lost massively in this sector.

Android for Enterprise

The google enterprise blog today launched a new Enterprise app called Google apps device policy giving Businesses greater control over mobile devices running Android 2.2 or higher and allowing remote reset of pins and remote wipe of data, great news for those looking to replace tired blackberries for something a little more flexible. There is also available for enterprise users Google Apps look up, which allows you to search your enterprise servers for contacts on your mobile device, all pretty swish and fluid if you ask me...

Samsung galaxy s2 UK Launch

I'll leave it up to the press release on this one:

SAMSUNG ANNOUNCES UK AVAILABILITY OF THE GALAXY S II
Samsung’s most powerful smartphone yet set to hit UK shores on 1st May
11th April 2011, London, UK – Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., today announces that its slimmest and lightest smartphone yet, the Samsung Galaxy S II (Model: GT-I9100), will be available in UK shops on 1st May 2011. The Galaxy S II is the first handset to offer Samsung’s Super AMOLED Plus screen technology, the largest, brightest and most colourful screen available in Samsung’s portfolio of devices.
Super slim (8.49mm) and lightweight (116g) Samsung’s Galaxy S II runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and is super-fast thanks to its dual-core 1.2GHz processor. The device’s exceptionally bright screen makes it perfect for watching movies and TV or playing games and looking at apps, with its ground-breaking ‘organic’ LED technology, Super AMOLED Plus also saving energy so you can enjoy watching content without affecting the battery life.
The Galaxy S II is built for multi-tasking, its dual-core processor makes switching between applications and loading web pages such as Google, Yahoo and YouTube quick, whilst superior 3D hardware means games and videos can be loaded and played with ease. What’s more, there’s immediate access to content and services such as catch up TV and movie downloads, thanks to super-fast connectivity and WiFi, with speeds up to 21Mbps which provides increased download speeds, and Bluetooth 3.0+HS which reduces data transfer times significantly.
Simon Stanford, Managing Director, Mobile, Samsung UK and Ireland said: “From the moment it was revealed at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona there has been a huge buzz about the Galaxy S II, so we’re pleased to announce that it will be available for UK customers to buy from 1st May. Our slimmest, lightest, fastest smartphone is our first device to offer of Super AMOLED Plus screen technology, alongside the most advanced technical specifications including the latest Android OS and a dual core processor. We’re confident it’s a great package for anyone wanting a superior smartphone experience.”
The Galaxy S II also features an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p HD recording and playback, Samsung’s patented AllShare technology so you can share pictures, movies, and music with other devices and Samsung’s new Kies Air which lets people manage their smartphone contents from their PC via local WiFi connections.
A new ‘Live Panel’ feature on the Galaxy S II allows aggregation of live web, social networking and application contents to a single customisable home-screen, whilst it’s possible to place all the important parts of your life onto three adjacent home screens which you can switch between simply by pressing and holding on the screen. As with all the Samsung Galaxy family, the Galaxy S II features Samsung Hubs, providing a huge range of entertainment content, advanced mobile games and the ability to manage social networking accounts.
The Samsung Galaxy S II will be available in the UK across all major networks and retailers.

Hmm it is very tempting but my i9000 is still running very well and i need to save my pennies for a tablet...

HTC Desire S about to go on sale through Orange UK

Orange UK are apparently about to start offering the solid but slightly disappointing (mainly 4* reviews) Desire S smart phone in the next couple of days through their website.

Looks solid enough for those looking for an android upgrade in the next couple of weeks, but hold on a little while longer and the powerhouses that are the HTC Pyramid and the Samsung Galaxy S2 will be available.

Amazon launching Blaze Dual Core Android phone - with a solar panel

Wow I hadn't seen anything about this phone, but it looks quite hot! Stats: 1.2 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8660 processor, 4.3-inch Mirasol display. Other specs include 512MB ram, 32GB of internal storage and a 5MP rear facing camera. plus it has a solar panel on the back for recharging your phone, the display is supposed to be pretty stingy on battery life to, sounds good right?

Xperia PLAY – The World’s First PlayStation Certified Smartphone

It's been a week of downs and more downs for Sony and their first excursion into PlayStation licensed smart phones; The Xperia Play. Carriers in the UK have held up it's launch pending improvements to its user interface according to Vodafone or "Supply Chains issues" according to the other carriers and Sony.

The phone looks great and has some pretty amazing specs and claims about it, there are several titles available at launch with more ports to come and also some interesting news regarding a streaming music service from Sony available to all owners.

It's a nice idea but I'm not convinced it will pan out in the wash, they are going to be available in the UK from next week.
